Grace Lutheran Church and Preschool is one of the many churches of the Augsburg Confession, also known as the Lutheran Church. It upholds without reservation the Sacred Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as the inspired Word of God and looks to the confessional writings of the Book of Concord of 1580 as its lens of reading and understanding the Bible.
The Lutheran understanding of the Christian faith as revealed in the Bible finds its center in Jesus Christ, God's Son, and what Christ did for the redemption of humankind through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. The message about God's redemptive act in Christ is known as "the Gospel" or the Good News. The Gospel message is the basis for our Christian faith and everything we have to say about God.

At essence, Lutherans confess the central doctrine of Christianity is the doctrine of justification by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, apart from seeking eternal salvation in one's own merits or achievements [good works]. This Gospel center informs everything about the Lutheran identity.
Lutherans, with the ancient church, hold to a rich liturgical and sacramental theology, along with a vigorous proclamation of the Word in their communal life together. Lutherans represent the largest gathering of Christians outside of the Roman Catholic communion in the western church and number about 70 million throughout the world on all continents.
Lutherans today are eager participants in the ecumenical movement and are anxious to continue their exploration of Christian unity with other Christian faith traditions. Lutherans, also, through Lutheran World Relief and Lutheran Social Services in the U.S., are deeply committed to ministry and mission to the whole person, regarding all human beings as precious children of God.
Grace Lutheran, San Diego, historically, is a self-governing congregation of the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod, a national Lutheran body organized in 1847 and numbering over 2.5 million members in the U.S. You are encouraged to refer to the Web Site of the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod for additional information and resources on the Lutheran identity.
