Chancel Choir

The Grace Lutheran Chancel Choir is committed to glorifying God through song as well as continuing a tradition of spiritual growth. The Chancel Choir provides an opportunity for its members to share their vocal and/or instrumental gifts and to serve the Lord by enhancing the worship experience through music.

Membership in the Chancel Choir is open to those individuals 16 years of age or older who have a heartfelt desire to serve our Lord in this ministry and have the ability to sing in tune.  The ability to read music or previous choral experience is not required.

The choir meets Wednesday nights from September through May from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, and Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the "Art Room". If you desire to join the Grace Lutheran Chancel Choir, please contact our Organist and Choir Director, Michael Burke At (760) 737-2250 or by email at consrecgrp@gmail.com.

About our Organ

The Grace Lutheran organ has an extensive history in the San Diego region. Although much of the history of this organ has been lost, it still remains as one of the significant organs in San Diego County.  It Currently ranks as the fifth largest church organ in the county.

The organ was first installed when Grace Lutheran Church rebuilt its sanctuary in 1930.  The original builder was the E.A. Spencer Organ Company and the console had three manuals and the organ contained 13 ranks.  The organ served the congregation well until 1958 when it was enlarged to 20 ranks and a new 3 manual Wicks console was installed.  In 1968 the congregation voted to further enlarge and re-voice the instrument.  John West was in charge of the project, expanding the organ to 43 ranks.  Mr. West, again, expanded to organ in 1980 to an unknown number of ranks.

Finally, in 2002 the organ was refurbished and expanded to its present size by Ron Kraft Organ Service.  The console was also refurbished and changed, giving it new levels of programmable memory, midi capability and replacing the Wicks tab stops with draw knobs.  The current organ contains three manuals and 59 ranks.  The 7 rank Positiv division is a floating division, playable on all divisions.
